ABOUT RICKY MARTIN FOUNDATION
We advocate for the well being of children around the globe in critical areas such as social justice, education and health. Our principal project People for Children condemns child exploitation as a consequence of human trafficking and modern day slavery.
On December 2003, Ricky Martin was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In his role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Ricky Martin has supported UNICEF’s efforts in fighting for children’s rights, especially in the area of child trafficking. Martin made an appeal to the United Nations in October 2004 for international help to fight sex tourism as part of an international panel of philanthropists dedicated to the education and prevention of child trafficking. He did extensive media work on behalf of UNICEF following his visit to Thailand’s tsunami-stricken areas in January 2005. He also traveled to Dar Al-Amman, Jordan in July 2005 where he visited the first Child Safety Center in the Arab region. In 2009, he recorded a public service announcement for the 20th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and in 2010 UNICEF joined the RMF in their community program Se Trata, the first anti-trafficking effort in Puerto Rico.

The research, led by Dr. César Rey, highlighted among its findings various forms of human trafficking: commercial sexual exploitation, labor exploitation and purchased marriages.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Through his ongoing philanthropic endeavors in conjunction with the Ricky Martin Foundation, Ricky Martin continues to be one of Habitat for Humanity's most visible supporters. Martin’s relationship with the organization began in early 2005, when the Ricky Martin Foundation partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build 224 homes in Thailand in response to the Asian tsunami in Dec. 2004. Martin personally assisted in the building of the home and has said that handing over the keys to the homeowners was one of the most enriching moments of his life. In 2010, after the devastating earthquakes in Haiti, Martin traveled to Port-au-Prince with Habitat for Humanity International's CEO Jonathan Reckford to visit one of the earthquake-ravaged neighborhoods in the capital city. They announced the creation of the RMF/Recovery Fund, as a long term solution, to construct homes to protect children and families in Haiti. After the Chilean earthquake, Martin teamed with HFH to also rebuild hope in the ravaged communities. Both organizations are encouraging supporters to visit www.habitat.org/rmf
